Expert Flute Repairs

The Flute Center of New York offers three standardized repair services: Play Condition (PC), Clean Oil and Adjust (COA), and Overhaul. Other repair services are offered based on assessment.

Play Condition (PC)
FCNY recommends Play Condition (PC) repair be performed every 12-18 months. A flute deteriorates slowly over time, but once the flute is regulated and shimmed, clients are enthralled with their “new" flute!

Student flute PC repair: $200
Includes up to two (2) hours and three (3) pads replaced for student flutes
Professional flute PC repair: $350
Includes up to three (3) hours and three (3) pads replaced for professional flutes

The PC Repair:
  1. The instrument is play tested.
  2. All pins are removed and fresh oil is applied as necessary.
  3. Bent rods are straightened and play is removed from both left and right hand sections.
  4. Silencing material (corks and felts) are replaced as necessary.
  5. The keys are reassembled and the instrument is regulated. Pad shimming is done as necessary.
  6. The headjoint cork is checked and replaced as necessary.
  7. Small dents are removed.
Note: Difficult or complex dents, soldering or other issues are priced at an additional rate of $95/hour. Additional time is billed at $95/hour. Additional pads are billed at $60/pad.

Clean, Oil and Adjust (COA)
The Clean, Oil and Adjust is a PC (Play Condition) repair with the added service of polishing

Student Flute COA: $400
Professional Flute COA: $550
The COA Repair:
  8. Instrument body is dipped in a silver brightening solution and then hand polished.
  9. Keys are hand-polished with Tarni Shield. The keys cannot be dipped without damaging the pads, and may still have some tarnish after hand-polishing.
Note: Difficult or complex dents, soldering or other issues are priced at an additional rate of $95/hour. Additional time is billed at $95/hour. Additional pads are billed at $60/pad.
