Conservatory Flutes

This listing of flutes represents the best of what is being manufactured today for around $8,000 - $12,500.

Our recommendation: At this price point, most flute brands offer an all-silver (including the mechanism), hand-made model. These flutes are handmade (usually in Japan or the US), manufactured to the highest quality level, and they retain their value very well. The silver mechanism usually makes the options more expensive, but the vast majority of players in this price point will generally want at least an option or two...  Additionally, some brands - Brannen, Burkart, and Miyazawa, and Powell - feature a fully pinless mechanism (sometimes referred to as the "Brogger" mechanism). The only major difference between these models and the fully handmade models tends to be in the tone-holes - these flutes have their tone holes drawn from their tubes while fully handmade flutes feature individually made tone holes hand-soldered onto the tube.

Moreover, these flutes generally can be fully customized, and many brands offer a full array of headjoint styles and options at this price point as well. Our interactive tool allows you to build and price-out each of these models with all available specifications.
